RICK WILSON for CONGRESS

WHY IM RUNNING

After months of backroom deals, political payoffs, and strong-arm tactics, President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Dale Kildee have forced a health care bill through Congress.  We've lost the battle over this bill, but the war for health care freedom has just begun.

The vote has set in motion the process to take away your healthcare and put it in the hands of federal bureaucrats.

Second, it has reaffirmed, yet again, that Dale Kildee has no intention of listening to the American people. These past months Democrats ignored millions of phone calls, email and letters from everyday Americans, but they listened to their big time contributors like Organized Labor and the Trial Lawyers.

RICK WILSON   CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATIVE

If you're willing to join me in the fight to save freedom, we can settle the score in November by electing true conservatives like myself who will repeal this unconstitutional and dangerous bill.  The simple truth is the bill cannot be fixed. It must be repealed.  We must elect true conservatives who love the Constitution and who will fight to repeal ObamaCare.

The election this November will be a referendum on Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats' record. With your vote, we can retire Dale Kildee so he doesn’t serve an 18th term in Congress.

We need to get the U.S. economy moving again. People are hurting as they struggle to make ends meet. They're worried about their future, and that of their children and grandchildren.

I want to ensure that we leave them an America that is financially stronger and independent: minus a national debt that we can never repay. Returning America to economic prosperity is done by reducing spending, paying down our nation's deficit, and balancing our domestic budget.  Click here for Rick's ideas on the economy.

I will lead the fight in against wasteful government spending and higher taxes. I am a free-market advocate who believes our strength as a nation flows from its people. I believe in a culture of family, patriotism and freedom. Here are some of my core beliefs:

  • Government is too big and the federal stimulus bill made government bigger instead of creating jobs

  • Taxes are too high and are going higher if Congress continues with its out-of-control spending

  • The historic amount of debt we are passing on to our children and grandchildren is immoral

  • I am passionate about improving the quality of our public schools. Accountability and high standards are paramount, as is adequate funding for education

  • A strong military and vigorous homeland defense will protect our interests and security around the world and at home

  • I am dedicated to winning the war against Radical Islam. This is, as John McCain stated, "the transcendent threat of our time", and, as I have stated to him, the transcendent threat of all time

MORE ON THE ISSUES

Protecting Life

All life is precious and valued.  I believe life starts at conception and ends at natural death.  I believe stem cell research should be left to adult stem cells.  Life begins at conception and babies shouldn't be grown as tissue for experiments.

Abortion is murder.  That being said, under our current Constitution, abortion rights should be decided at the state level.  Until personhood amendments to state law are enacted into law, the current law, that abortion is not murder, holds true. Even after such laws are enacted, murder will be, as it is currently, a state and local offense.  As your congressman, I will initiate and vigorously and proudly support a “Personhood” amendment to the US Constitution, which will define life, and personhood, as beginning at conception.  Until the time that such an amendment is passed, ratified by the states, and placed into the Constitution, then the current law, the current Constitution takes precedence.  As Glenn Beck has frequently stated, it is hard, but vital, that conservatives support the Constitution even when they don’t agree with it, and even when it works at cross purposes to their goals.

Energy and Environment

In order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, I support “drill here, drill now".  Exploring America's oil and gas resources will result in more jobs, more prosperity and better national security.  I do support clean coal, as well as reasonable and appropriate development of alternative energy sources such as nuclear, geothermal and improved hydroelectric facilities. I support common-sense environment policy that will help to reduce pollution and preserve our precious open spaces. I oppose a national cap and trade program because of the higher costs that families and businesses would incur.  I believe climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon and is not caused or influenced by mankind. I have signed a pledge opposing the use of the climate change issue to increase taxes and grow the size of government.

Healthcare

America provides the finest health care in the world. It is still in need of reform, particularly in those areas where problems are most acute: cost, access, and portability. Access and portability primarily due to problems with the individual health insurance market, and overall cost containment, mostly due to interference. The Obama-Pelosi-Kildee plan does not improve any of these problems and at best throws the baby out with the bathwater.

I am dedicated to keeping America 's health care system the best in the world.  If elected, I will work to reverse government takeover of our health care by Obama, Pelosi and Reid, and have signed a pledge to that effect.  Health care needs to be portable and affordable, and the best way to achieve success is through promoting wellness and competition.  Government run health care will result in fewer doctors, limited care, long wait times, bureaucratic decision making, and fewer life saving drugs.  Click here for my ideas on healthcare reform.

Immigration
Our strength as a nation is built on the immigrant experience in America . I do support limited legal immigration to this country. However, we are also a nation of laws, and government should not adopt policies that encourage illegal immigration. Providing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrant families will draw more people here and impose new costs on taxpayers. I oppose amnesty, and I believe we ought to strengthen our border enforcement and institute and enforce penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants.
I support legislation recently enacted in Arizona that allows local law enforcement to act when the federal government will not.

Upholding our Constitution
Dedicated to ensuring that American's rights, as pronounced in the Constitution of the United States of America, will not be abridged. I will fight for our first Amendment rights of freedom of speech, assembly, and religion.

Second Amendment
D
edicated to ensuring every Americans Second Amendment right to bear arms. I am an endowment member of the NRA, and I am renewing my CPL for the second time this summer. I do target shoot, but the point is that it doesn't matter why you own or want to own a gun, it is your right to do so for no reason at all. I will fight to ensure that everyone's rights to bear arms in not infringed by any level of government.

Tax and Regulatory Burdens
Dedicated to lowering business taxes, for that is the documented best way to help businesses create jobs. Since the only real jobs are created by business, this is vital to the future prosperity of America and Americans.

Dedicated to reducing the regulative burden on business and individuals. Sarbanes-Oxley, for example, was meant to ensure honest bookkeeping. J.T. Battenburg from DELPHI was the first CEO of the first Corporation to submit its accounting under those rules. Of course, DELPHI was found to have fraudulently stated its positions, and J.T. Battenburgs signature wasn't worth the paper it was written on. That legislation, although well intended and passed by Republicans, is very much in restraint of trade and anti-small business, for complying with it costs 2-3 million dollars per year. Every regulation and agency needs to be minimized.

I support implementing the FairTax at both the state and federal level.  Both the Michigan and Federal Fair Tax initiatives replace the income tax system, which taxes what we earn, with a tax on what we spend. The FairTax is a consumption tax: the more you buy, the more you pay in taxes; the less you buy, the less you pay in taxes. So everyone pays fairly when they choose to spend.  Click on the logos below to learn more:
